Dodge Poetry Festival

12th biennial Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival will run from Thursday, September 25 through Sunday, September 28, 2008 in New Jersey. There are shuttle buses from Manhattan (about an hour and $10)
There are dozens of internationally and nationally renowned poets and dozens of other accomplished poets, as well as musicians and storytellers. There’s a weight on American poets.
There are readings and poets doing conversations on craft, and group panel discussions throughout each day of the Festival.
Simultaneous events take place in intimate tents seating 50 to 100, larger tents seating 200, 400, or 600, and on the Main Stage of the Concert Tent, which seats over 2,000.
This year a few past Poet Laureates and long-term big names include: Chris Abani, Simon Armitage, Coleman Barks, Billy Collins, Lucille Clifton, Mark Doty, Martín Espada, Kate Greenstreet, Joy Harjo, Robert Hass, Brenda Hillman, Edward Hirsch, Jane Hirshfield, Ted Kooser, Maxine Kumin, Naomi Shihab Nye, Sharon Olds, Linda Pastan, Evie Shockley, Charles Simic, C.D. Wright and Franz Wright.
Tickets for the 4 days are $80, $45 for weekend only.
11 hours by train out of Montreal? Hm…

  1. I wouldn’t attend that even if someone were paying me to go. You’d be better off taking the ticket fare and spending it on books… books by other poets than those featured in the conference, except for Franz Wright and Kate Greenstreet, they’re pretty cool.
