Jose Garcia Villa, Experiments with the Comma

A second section that stood out from the back issues of Horizon magazine was an issue from May 1949. A set of poems is by Jose Garcia Villa who founded Clay in New Mexico and who ran into a bit of trouble with obscenity laws due to his series of erotic poems entitled “Man Songs” in 1929.

In these he is experimenting with the comma as part of medium, comparable to pointillism.

I particularly like poem III that starts below and continues on the following page.

Poem page 1

Villa Poem page 2

I mis-numbered the image files somehow. The images skip page 3 but no page is missing. Next is page 4, page 5, page 6.

  1. jose garcia villa, experiments with the comma

the authentic use of comma is for verbal pause.poetry of jose garcia villa demonstrates this clearly.without comma, there is no musicality and lyuricism in the human language.
